Perez tests positive for Covid-19
The unfortunate news that came out of the paddock yesterday evening was that Racing Point’s Sergio Perez had tested positive for Covid-19.
After the news earlier I the day that the Mexican was scheduled for a re-test after an inclusive first test it comes as a shock to the F1 bubble that one of their own drivers has contracted the highly infectious disease ravaging that world.
A statement from governing body the FIA said "procedures… have provided for swift containment". The statement adds that Perez's positive test that was performed yesterday "will have no wider impact on this weekend's event".
Racing Point commented that Perez was "physically well and in good spirits, but he will continue to self-isolate under the guidelines of the relevant public health authorities, with safety the ultimate priority for the team and the sport".
The team also confirmed that they will plan to run two cars for the British GP this weekend with names such as Esteban Guitterez, Stoffel Vandoorne and Nico Hulkenberg rumoured to be in with a shot of the drive.
