Official: Nico Hulkenberg replaces Sergio Perez at the British GP
It has been confirmed today that former F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg will replace Sergio Perez for the British Grand Prix this weekend.
The news comes after it was confirmed yesterday that the Mexican had tested positive for Covid-19 and the team were eager to run 2 cars.
After being banished to the F1 wilderness by Renault at the end of the 2019 season this opportunity could be seen by Hulkenberg as a swansong, a potential for that elusive podium or a chance to show current teams they are missing out on a quick, consistent driver capable of bringing home points week in, week out.
Due to the new UK regulations that all individuals were test positive must now self isolate for 10 days it looks increasingly likely that Hulkeneberg will get his chance at next weekends 70th anniversary grand prix too, provided the team wish to keep him for that race.
Many in the paddock will be pleased to see Hulkenberg back, with Carlos Sainz commenting at the beginning of the season that the German deserved a place on the grid.
The British GP will be the ultimate test for the German who hasn’t stepped into an F1 car since the end of 2019 and will be eager to get the miles in before qualifying Saturday.
